Consolidation

Consolidation refers to the merging of goods, especially after picking. It involves physically combining the picked stocks belonging to a delivery order. The WMS has the task of managing the staging areas, organizing incoming stocks and monitoring the completeness of the delivery order. Once all delivery order shares have been consolidated, the subsequent process can be initiated. Various conveying and storage technologies can be used to support consolidation, e.g. conveying technology rotors or buffer storages. Consolidation can also take place during order picking (e.g. pick & pack scenario) or during the packaging process (grouping of packages for one ship-to party, if necessary also across delivery orders).
