With static storage, each item has a fixed storage location in the warehouse. The articles are always stored in the prescribed storage location. This form of the storage place assignment is suitable for small, manageable warehouses where the article stock rarely changes and only manageable quantities are stored.
Disadvantages of this method are empty shelves when certain articles are sold out, resulting in poor space utilization. Furthermore, due to unequal distribution of articles in the warehouse (e.g. many A-items or fast-moving items in an aisle), warehouse workers can hinder each other when a lot is picked in a warehouse area.
