The aim of order picking is to assemble partial quantities from a full quantity of goods (assortment) based on delivery orders by means of warehouse tasks. This includes both the separation of material and the withdrawal of complete containers from the assortment. The WMS supports the fulfillment of the warehouse task “order picking” by

• the use of various order picking processes and the optimization of order picking orders,
• the consideration of relevant inventory characteristics and
• communication with the resources involved (e.g. employees, conveyor technology, robots).
