Software ergonomics

Software ergonomics describes a software's attribute of being ergonomically designed. Software ergonomics includes the entire human-machine interface (or operator interface or user interface) in terms of structure, design and readability, as well as consistent, uniform and comprehensible operation. In ergonomically designed systems, for example, frequent dialog changes in one process are avoided, incorrect entries and inadmissible triggering of functions are avoided through checks, the information required for the processes is clearly displayed and unnecessary information can be hidden. Ergonomic software should be geared to the needs of the user (user orientation) and the requirements of the work task (task orientation). (cf. also EN ISO 2942).
